"Panza Llena, Corazón Contento"

"Full Belly, Happy Heart"

Mijo was created by James Beard nominated chef Fany Gerson and her husband, Daniel Ortiz de Montellano, both Mexico City natives. During the pandemic, Fany & Danny created a savory concept to keep the light on at their sister business La Newyorkina. They started cooking meals for hospital workers and communities in need and later created a savory concept which they called “El Newyorkino” preparing homey Mexican dishes to deliver to people’s homes with reheating instructions.

A few years later they wanted to keep on sharing those meals they longed for that filled them with comfort and joy. Mijo is a term of endearment in Spanish meaning “my son” and the concept is inspired by their sweet son Gael whom they lovingly call Chiltepín– aka Chilte. Everything about Mijo is inspired by and for him.

The menu is a mix of some of their favorite home style and street foods from Mexico City using the very best ingredients they can get their hands on.
